Experience

Joe Grubb is recognized as one of Delaware’s most accomplished trial attorneys, where he has successfully tried cases in Superior Court, U.S. District Court for the District of Delaware, the Court of Common Pleas, Family Court and Justice of the Peace Court as a former Deputy Attorney General of the Delaware Department of Justice’s (“DDOJ”) Criminal Division and was also the Director of Training and Trial Advocacy for the DDOJ.  As a senior litigation attorney at BMF, Joe’s practice ranges from criminal defense to civil litigation.

Prior to joining BMF, Joe previously served in numerous leadership roles such as Chief New Castle County Prosecutor, Assistant Unit Head of the Felony Trial Unit and Assistant Unit Head of the Misdemeanor Trial Unit.  Joe was also appointed as a Special Assistant United States Attorney to work jointly with the federal government on multijurisdictional matters and crimes involving firearms. He has handled numerous homicides, rapes, domestic violence, violent gang, gun, burglary, robbery, wiretap, white collar, DUI & vehicular, and drug cases including notable prosecutions of the NorthPak gang, the First State Lanes Bowling Alley shootout, Daniel Santucci, Frederick Gray, Glenford Blackwood, Luis Sierra, and Monir George.  Joe is a past member of the Superior Court Criminal Rules Committee, the National Association of Prosecutor Coordinators, the National Best Practices for Attorneys Committee, the DDOJ Death Penalty Review Committee, and the Advisory Board of the Delaware Violent Death Reporting System.  Joe also teaches various criminal and legal classes at the Delaware Law School and Wilmington University, teaches across the county as a faculty member of the National Institute of Trial Advocacy (NITA) and the National Association of Attorneys General (NAAG), and was named Deputy Attorney General of the Year in 2021, as well one of Delaware Today magazine’s 2023, 2024 & 2025 Top Lawyers. He also has conducted trainings for various law enforcement agencies and the Delaware State Bar Association.

Joe is a graduate of the University of Delaware (class of 2002).  Joe obtained his J.D. from Widener University School of Law (now the Delaware Law School, class of 2005).

Joe is a member of the Richard K. Herrmann Technology Inn of Court, as well as the LGBTQ+ section.  Joe also served as a judicial intern to The Honorable Marty M. Johnston, Superior Court.  Joe volunteers as a high school mock trial coach and moot court/mock trial judge as well as a mentor for local law schools.
