Mark Denney is recognized as one of Delaware’s most accomplished trial attorneys, with first-chair trial experience in Chancery and Superior Court. As a senior litigation partner at BMF, Mark’s practice ranges from corporate, trust, and business matters to government affairs and civil rights cases – state and federal. In addition, Mark has represented clients before various boards and commissions.
Prior to joining BMF, Mark successfully litigated some of the most difficult and high-profile cases for the Delaware Department of Justice (DEDOJ), including murder, public corruption, racketeering, gang prosecutions, white collar crimes, and cold case homicides. Mark was appointed as a Special Assistant United States Attorney to work jointly with the federal government on multijurisdictional and complex matters. He served with distinction in numerous leadership roles within the DEDOJ, including as chief of the Wilmington Felony Trial Unit.
As Delaware’s inaugural director of the Division of Civil Rights and Public Trust, Mark became a leading authority in anti-corruption, constitutional law, conviction integrity, and uses of force by law enforcement. He was directly involved in the drafting and passage of groundbreaking legislation and criminal justice policy.
Mark served as a coordinating member of the DEDOJ’s Ethics Committee and Trial Advocacy Committee. He has taught courses on the law related to police use of force, undercover operations, firearms, and hate crimes – and he has led trainings for the Delaware Judiciary and Delaware Bar on closing arguments, courtroom testimony, jury selection, and the rules governing out-of-court statements.
Mark is a member of the Richard S. Rodney Inn of Court, and he served as a judicial intern to The Honorable Kent A. Jordan, United States District Court for the District of Delaware.
