A federal judge blocked Perdue Farms’ attempt to dismiss a class-action lawsuit over PFAS contamination from its Salisbury facility, allowing the case to proceed.
BMF Partner Phillip Federico said residents have suffered serious health issues, including kidney and breast cancer, colitis, and birth defects. “We’re here to fix their environmental problem,” he told The Baltimore Sun.
The lawsuit, filed last year on behalf of residents living near an industrial complex owned by Perdue AgriBusiness, a subsidiary of Perdue Farms, alleges the Maryland Department of the Environment determined the site was releasing hundreds of thousands of gallons of wastewater each day into the nearby water supply — much of it contaminated with PFAS.
“What Perdue should do, if they really care about this community, is sit down with us and work out a solution,” Federico said. “Not litigate it for two or three years.”
