On August 12, 2025, U.S. District Judge Stephanie Gallagher ruled that our class action lawsuit against Perdue Farms over PFAS, also known as “forever chemicals,” contamination near its Salisbury, MD facility can move forward. The ruling clears the way for the case to proceed to discovery.
The lawsuit alleges that wastewater from Perdue’s operations, which contains PFAS, was discharged into nearby streams, farmland, and forested areas, contaminating the environment and posing health risks to residents living less than a mile and a half from the facility. PFAS compounds are synthetic chemicals that do not break down naturally and have been linked to increased cancer risk, fertility issues, and other serious health effects.
“We’re not looking to put Perdue out of business,” Federico said. “We want them, frankly, to be more productive and more profitable. But they have to do it — they absolutely have to do it — in an environmentally responsible way.”
