The Baltimore office of Brockstedt Mandalas Federico (“BMF”) is seeking a detail-oriented, organized paralegal to join our Medical Malpractice team. The Baltimore office is located in the picturesque Quarry Lake office complex.
Job Summary:
The Medical Malpractice Paralegal will support attorneys in building and managing complex malpractice cases. Their work spans document handling, research, expert coordination, and communication—all demanding organization, legal insight, and medical understanding.
Duties and responsibilities:
- Assist with investigations, client intake, gather medical records, and review clinical documents to identify issues and potential complexity.
- Maintain case files, track deadlines, coordinate calendars for hearings, depositions, and court appearances.
- Prepare and respond to discovery requests, draft pleadings, subpoenas, motions, correspondence, and other legal filings.
- Assist in trial prep: organize exhibits, compile witness lists, coordinate demonstratives.
- Collect, review, summarize, and chronologize medical records; extract key facts and standard-of-care information.
- Coordinate with hospitals, clinics, and billing departments to obtain records and medical.
- Conduct legal and medical research.
- Assist in locating, coordinating, and preparing expert witnesses—including communication, scheduling, and briefing.
- Serve as liaison for clients, healthcare providers, insurers, opposing counsel, court personnel, and experts.
- All other tasks as assigned
Required skills and abilities:
- Skill in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook), e-file systems, and document management software
- Experience with ediscovery platforms Strong ability to review, interpret, and summarize medical records using medical/legal terminology.
- Excellent organizational, timemanagement, multitasking, and attention-to-detail skills.
- Effective written and verbal communication; professional demeanor handling sensitive matters.
Education, experience, and physical requirements:
- Typically requires 2–5+ years of litigation or medical malpractice paralegal experience.
- Paralegal certificate or associate’s degree; preference for healthcare-related education or legal credentials
