Job Summary:
The Personal Injury Paralegal is responsible for all aspects of case management. This includes assisting the attorney(s) by providing clerical and research support services including document preparation and review; interviewing clients and witnesses; coordinating medical bills and treatment, coordinating with liability, no-fault, underinsured/uninsured, and health insurance coverages; managing a case load, and ensuring the client is kept informed throughout the process, conducting research as needed, investigations, fact checking, and trial preparation.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Meets with attorneys, clients, and other professionals to discuss assigned cases or projects.
- Experience with full Personal Injury case management from client intake to settlement, lien resolution, or litigation.
- Draft legal documents, including routine pleadings and motions, affidavits, interrogatories, file motions and pleadings according to judicial procedures.
- Interviews clients and witnesses and prepares summaries of their statements.
- Prepares, organizes, stores, and retrieves case files, which may include evidence, depositions, pleadings, exhibits, and other items.
- Familiar with legal document management systems.
- Assists attorneys with trial preparation, which may include attending trials and hearings.
- Maintains contact with medical providers and insurance companies and communicates with the client often to ensure all needs related to their case are being met.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, along with time management and attention to detail.
- Understanding of legal language and principles, research methods, court pleadings and processes, and other related matters.
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
- Time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines
- Personal injury case management to include maintaining contact with all parties involved, including medical providers, the client, insurance companies, etc. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to function well in a high-paced environment.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and to exercise discretion and good judgment.
- Self-starter that works well in a small group or independently
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
Education and Experience and Physical Requirements:
- Associate’s degree in paralegal studies or related field required, or equivalent experience, bachelor’s degree in paralegal studies or related field preferred.
- ABA-approved Paralegal program preferred.
- 3-5 years of Delaware personal injury experience preferred.
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift to 15 pounds at times.
- Other duties as assigned.
