Brockstedt Mandalas Federico Partner Philip Federico has been named to The Daily Record’s 2026 Environmental Leaders Power List. In his honoree profile, Phil discussed the firm’s work to hold polluters accountable for PFAS contamination in Maryland and what it will take to strengthen the state’s environmental future.
As leader of the firm’s environmental law and mass tort and class action practices, Phil has been a central figure in litigation that has produced more than $1 billion in verdicts and settlements. He handled medical malpractice cases for 25 years before moving into environmental and mass tort work. In recent years, he and his team have focused on groundwater contamination and air pollution cases on behalf of affected communities. That work includes PFAS litigation involving the Perdue Agribusiness facility in Wicomico County and the W.L. Gore facility in Cecil County.
“I’ve said before that PFAS is today’s version of asbestos. We will be litigating these cases for decades before this is cleaned up. Communities shouldn’t have to wait that long for basic answers about their water,” Phil told The Daily Record.
Phil’s advice for anyone hoping to make a measurable environmental difference is to start locally by listening to the people most directly affected, who often understand best what needs to change.
Congratulations to Phil on this well-deserved honor!
