Brockstedt Mandalas Federico is proud to announce that five of the firm’s partners have been named to the 2026 Lawdragon 500 Leading Environmental Lawyers – The Green 500, a nationally recognized guide honoring attorneys at the forefront of environmental law, sustainability, and climate change.
Partners Phil Federico, Chase Brockstedt, Brent Ceryes, Catherine Cramer, and Matt Legg were selected for their leadership in high-impact environmental litigation on behalf of communities harmed by industrial pollution, groundwater contamination, and toxic chemical exposure.
Several of the recognized partners played central roles in some of the most significant environmental cases in the country. This includes the $205 million settlement against Mountaire Farms, the largest nitrate groundwater contamination resolution in U.S. history, which addressed decades of wastewater and sludge disposal that impacted residents in Millsboro, Delaware. As well as securing a $103 million settlement in litigation against New-Indy Catawba, resolving claims under the Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, and Resource Conservation and Recovery Act related to harmful air and water emissions affecting communities across North and South Carolina.
BMF’s partners are currently leading and advancing complex PFAS and “forever chemical” litigation. Ongoing matters include lawsuits against W.L. Gore & Associates involving PFAS contamination tied to itsmanufacturing at facilities in Elkton, Maryland, where groundwater and private wells were found to contain PFAS at levels far exceeding advisory limits. The firm is also actively litigating against Perdue AgriBusinessin Salisbury, Maryland, following the discovery of PFAS contamination linked to decades of wastewater spray irrigation at its soybean processing facility in Salisbury, Maryland.
In addition, BMF also currently represents public entities and water providers in nationwide litigation against manufacturers of Aqueous Film Forming Foam (AFFF), including 3M and DuPont, for PFAS contamination of groundwater near military bases and aviation facilities. This work includes representation of the Charleston County Aviation Authority, the only South Carolina-based plaintiff in the federal AFFF multidistrict litigation.
Beyond PFAS matters, the firm also represents more than 2,000 veterans and family members exposed to contaminated drinking water at Camp Lejeune, where decades of environmental mismanagement led to widespread exposure to carcinogens associated with serious illnesses.
Congratulations to Phil, Chase, Brent, Catherine, and Matt on this well-deserved recognition!
