Partner Matt Legg was featured in Law360’s Legal Lions of the Week roundup as part of the plaintiffs’ team representing school districts and personal injury plaintiffs in the ongoing social media multidistrict litigation.
The coverage follows a significant ruling by U.S. District Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers denying the social media companies’ motion for summary judgment on negligence and public nuisance claims in the bellwether case. The decision allows those claims to proceed.
The litigation alleges that social media platforms designed addictive features such as infinite scroll, autoplay, notifications, and reward mechanisms that harm students’ mental health and educational outcomes. School districts are seeking reimbursement for resources spent addressing these impacts and preventing further harm.
Matt is part of the national plaintiffs’ team in the litigation, and Brockstedt Mandalas Federico represents more than 90 school districts in the case against TikTok, Meta, Snap, and YouTube.
