October 25, 2024 – Salisbury, MD
Last night’s town hall to discuss the PFAS water contamination around the Perdue AgriBusiness facility saw a remarkable turnout, with close to 400 Salisbury residents attending. Hosted by Baird Mandalas Brockstedt & Federico (BMBF), the event provided a comprehensive update on the discovery of high levels of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in the wastewater at the Perdue facility and in surrounding residential areas.
The attorneys from BMBF–Chase T. Brockstedt and Philip C. Federico–along with environmental consultants Deborah Jennings and Roger Truitt, and hydrogeologist Dr. Harvey A. Cohen, addressed community concerns about the health impacts of these “forever chemicals,” which are linked to serious health conditions including cancer, thyroid disease, and developmental issues in children. During the town hall, residents were advised to use bottled water until they could arrange for residential well testing to ensure safety.
The legal team also discussed the class action lawsuit filed against Perdue AgriBusiness, affirming their dedication to seeking justice for Salisbury’s affected families and residents. They encouraged the community to stay informed, promising continued updates on both the legal proceedings and investigation into the contamination’s extent.
In addition to the in-person event, the town hall was live-streamed on BMBF’s YouTube channel to accommodate those unable to attend. BMBF has committed to regular updates as they work to protect public health and hold responsible parties accountable for this environmental crisis.
